The Chatterbox

Emerson is becoming quite the chatterbox. We have heard nonstop squealing for three days now. She even belted out a few tunes for the kids in stroller class today. I was so worried that it was going to happen in Church on Sunday, but luckily she only smiled at the people in the row behind us.

If her squealing is any indication of how much talking she will do later in life, we are so in trouble. Jim and I are worried that she will be the kid with a million "whys" and never stop chatting.

As you can see from the picture, she also just learned how to touch her toes.

First Feeding

Emerson's first feeding went as expected...she hated it. She did not mind the taste of the rice cereal because she has been eating it in a bottle of breast milk for a couple of months but she wasn't so sure about the texture. She gobbled up a couple of bites, and then she threw a fit (as you can see in the above picture). We both left the scene covered in cereal.

She has had two more servings since her first feeding and it seems to be growing on her. She ate almost the entire bowl of cereal this morning (with the exception of what is on her face). We are going to try pears tonight and see how that goes over. I have a feeling that Emerson won't be underweight for long.

It's Chow Time!

Emerson finally went for her 4 month check-up today. She's still in the 25th percentile for weight and height, coming in at 12 pounds 2 ounces and 23-1/2 inches long. The doctor wasn't worried about her weight because Emerson gets to start eating food today. She gets to start with rice cereal, prunes and pears...yummy! The doctor also suggested that I try to offer her a small amount of formula after I breast feed her...just in case she isn't getting enough milk from me. Emerson loves to eat so with her new food choices she might actually be considered "chubby" at her six month doctor's visit.

Emerson also received four shots today and she was a real trooper. She only cried after two of them, and she gave the nurse a big smile after she was done.

The doctor's visit was otherwise uneventful. I got questions answered like leaky diapers, bowel movements, etc. so I came out a little more educated.

Stay tuned for pictures of Emerson's first feeding! (It might be a few days, as I have a new camera and I don't know how to download my pics yet!)

Single Parenthood

Wow...who knew single parenting could be so tough! Jim received an email from his boss last Saturday asking Jim to replace him at a seminar in North Carolina this week. My first reaction was panic and then I was just p*ssed off! How could I take care of a dog and a baby by myself for three nights? But there was nothing we could do because his boss' mom passed away and we knew it wouldn't look good if Jim didn't go. When I woke up on Monday, I felt pretty good about him leaving...thinking I could regain some of my independence for a few days since I depend on Jim to do everything for me these days.

Well, Jim flew out late Monday afternoon and everything went well at home except for a diaper blowout! I managed to make it through Monday night and Tuesday night with both kids and no problems. So, I was thinking...I was Super Mom!

Well, all the drama hit last night! AJ came over after school to go to dinner with Emerson and me. Cosmo was extremely excited when AJ arrived and ran her normal laps around the apartment. Cosmo keeps forgetting that she is an old lady, and she reinjured her leg. As most of you know, when Cosmo is hurt, there is a whole lot of drama that goes along with it. When she needed a potty break, I had to carry her down the stairs and spend what seemed like hours limping around outside to find the right potty spot. (And did I mention that I hurt my wrist a couple of weeks ago and can't lift anything heavy...including Cosmo). So, I finally got Emerson to bed and Cosmo and I went to bed a few hours later. Well, Mo was in so much pain that would sigh, and when I would wake up she was staring into my eyes. I guess that around one or two o'clock she decided that she was okay and moved to her dog bed.

At that point, I'm thinking, ah, I can get some good sleep until morning. Wrong! Emerson woke up hungry around 3:30 so I fed her and tried to put her back to bed. Wrong! She wanted to chat! I was up until 5:30 listening to her chat, laugh and squeal at nothing but my face! Ok, so it was cute so it was worth staying up for. I finally got back to sleep around 6 and then at 7 Emerson was awake again because it was time to eat again! Needless to say, I didn't get any sleep last night. But I somehow managed to make it to StrollerFit today. Thankfully, Jim comes home tonight so maybe I can get some sleep!

Oh, I also posted a photo below to show what pals Emerson and Cosmo have become. Emerson seems to like Cosmo a little more than Mo likes her though. Mo has helped us with some fussy periods because Emerson seems to light up when she sees Cosmo.

Emerson is 4 Months Old!

It's hard to believe that Emerson is four months old. It seems like I just delivered her...boy, time flies. She is starting to develop a personality (as you can see from her many facial expression above), and she is so much fun to be with....well, except when she throws a screaming fit, and yes, they still happen every now and then. She doesn't have her four month check up for about a week and a half, but I can't wait for it, because we will start feeding her cereal at that time. She loves cereal in her bottle so hopefully she will like it from a spoon too! I will let everyone know her weight once we know it.

Congratulations to the Barrs

Congratulations to Kim and Stephen on the arrival of Baby Neener, now known as Asher Duncan Barr! Emerson cannot wait to meet her future boyfriend!

Squealing Baby Equals Unhappy Dog

Emerson has been fascinated with Cosmo for some time now, and yesterday she started squealing when she saw Cosmo. Well, that led to all day squealing, and Cosmo isn't so sure about it. She appears to be a little annoyed. Today, our morning has started out with more squealing and Cosmo is trying to ignore it, as if it isn't happening. Poor Cosmo...she doesn't realize that it isn't going to get any quieter around here.
